The shirt was in overall good structural condition but unusable for display due to a large visually disfiguring stain on the proper left front which both discolored and hardened the buckskin.
The object was photographed before and after treatment. The surface was cleaned with dry brush and HEPA filtered vacuum. Visual compensation was undertaken to the stain using a reversible application of chalk pastel. In addition there was minor bead stabilization and overall bead cleaning.
The result: the object is stable overall, and the disfiguring stain is nearly invisible to museum viewers. In fact, this object is displayed prominently at the front of it's platform.
