Carriages from Cumberland Island National Historic Seashore
The project included four horse drawn vehicles from the CUIS collection, two carts, one surrey, and a coffin wagon. Only one of the carts is pictured here.

Conservation treatments were conducted with guidance from senior National Park Service conservators. The majority of the work was done in the CUIS storage and display facility in St. Mary's, Georgia. However, some work was completed on site on Cumberland Island.

Treatment involved hot waxing of metal elements (top image), consolidation of insect damaged wood and flaking paint (middle image), and rust conversion in particularly sensitive or corroded areas (lower image).
